Gainsborough: Mum used benefits to pay for world trip

A Gainsborough woman appeared in national newspapers this week after it was revealed she was able to pay for a once in a lifetime holiday with her benefits.

Kay Bird, 28, is a single mum who lives with her parents in Gainsborough and they cover all her rent, bills and all other outgoings, according to reports.

The Standard contacted Kay via Facebook to speak to her about her circumstances and what had already been published.

Kay said: “I wanted an article that would help people see there’s more out there and anything can be done if you set your mind to it.”

“I’m on maternity leave which is why I get benefits - it’s not permanent and I’m a professional.”

“I took my daughter on a trip to meet her father in Australia, albeit on a budget but I’m not stealing .”

“It wasn’t easy and it most certainly wasn’t scrounged.”

“It was a trip that took my heart and soul and the papers have dragged me through the mud.”
