Lincolnshire Co-op has invested £1.3m in a new outlet on Heapham Road which will replace its existing store on Queensway.

The purpose-built food store will have a much bigger range of products including a new in store bakery, lottery and an ATM.

A 16-space car park will be available for customers and an increase in the store’s hours will see it open from 7am until 10pm, seven days a week.

Nine jobs have been created and the existing 10 strong team will transfer over.

Lincolnshire Co-op’s Store Development Manager Matthew Wilkinson said: “We can’t wait to open the doors of our new modern food store.

“It’s double the size of our current outlet and in a more prominent position so we’ll be able to better serve the community in Gainsborough.

“Customers can also look forward to new services like an in store bakery, a handy ATM and a much larger range of chilled products.”

The 3,000 square foot outlet will have energy-saving features including doors on fridges and freezers, a heat reclamation system, LED lights and motion sensors in back office areas.

Local architect Derek Morris, based in Fenton, designed the building and Metheringham-based contractor Taylor Pearson Construction was appointed to build the store.

It is hoped this new store will attract more members to the Co-op society.
