Gainsborough: New primary school has officially opened its doors

Castle Wood Academy is a £3.8m construction project managed by Lincs County Council which will be operated by Tall Oaks Academy Trust.

They already operate two academies in Gainsborough, both judged ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted which are White’s Wood Academy and Mercer’s Wood Academy.

The new school opened its doors on Tuesday, September 1, to 49 Reception aged children and there was an official opening ceremony which took place on Wednesday, September 23.

Executive Principal at the Castle Wood Academy, Sharron Close, said: “We are extremely pleased with the way the children have settled into our new school.

“All the hard work put in by everyone involved in the design and building is much appreciated and we look forward to continuing with our ‘Outstanding’ provision for all our children.”

Coun Patricia Bradwell, Executive Councillor for Children’s Services, said: “I’m looking forward to meeting staff, governors and of course the children at the official opening.

“This marvellous new facility for local children will help to meet the rising numbers of pupils in the town and we’ve made good use of the former Castle Hills Secondary site to build the new school.”
