Pupils travelled to Cherry Willingham Community School to take part in a Volleyball coaching session and tournament against other local schools.

The game was completely new to most of the children and when the competition started both Parish teams won their first game and the first team when on to win all their other games and were crowned champions for Lincoln North.

Parish player, Lewis Wisdom-Lockwood, was thrilled to have won the competition.

He said: “We had only had time for a short practice at school, but we had been taught the main rules and skills. The net seems really high and it can be really hard to get the ball over.”

Teacher and coach John Anderson was delighted with the children.

He said: “It was great for the children to try a new sport, and they didn’t find it easy. However they kept listening to all the advise myself and the leaders gave them and got better with each game!”

The team has now qualified for the Lincolnshire Finals in May. And the school also saw success when they took to water.

A group of Year 3 and 4 children travelled to Lincoln Priory School to compete against 10 other schools in individual and relay races across the main three swimming strokes.

Parish claimed the winners spot in the heat for Gainsborough and District area and came joint second overall, only four points behind 1st place.

Top backstroke swimmer, Harvey Stevens, said: “I managed to win my race and we were all cheering really loudly for each other.”

Swimming Coach, Janette Smith, and Performance Coach, John Anderson, were delighted with the children.

They said: “For some of them it was their first gala and they supported each other so well. Swimming is such an important skill to learn and then these events allow them to use that skill competitively.”
