Gainsborough: Remembrance Day services planned

Gainsborough’s main tribute will be on Remembrance Sunday 10th November, and will be led by civic dignitaries and the Royal British Legion.

The civic service will be held at The Parish Church of All Saints on Church Street at 10.30am, with two minutes silence at 11am.

After the service, the Royal British Legion standard and the clergy will lead a procession to the War Memorial, where there will be a further short act of remembrance and the laying of wreaths. Any individual or organisation will be given the opportunity to lay a wreath or other symbol of remembrance.

Small troughs will be placed at the war memorial to act as a garden of remembrance and everyone is invited to lay their own symbol of remembrance at any time before 10th November.

There will be a parade at Sturton-by-Stow, in the afternoon of 10th November.

Assembling in School Lane at 2.50pm, the parish council, the Royal British Legion and other ex-service organisations together with local civic dignitaries and several local organisations will parade to the War Memorial for an outdoor Service of Remembrance and laying of wreaths.

The two minute silence is observed on Armistice Day, and the Royal British Legion is asking everyone to stand silent for two minutes at 11am on Monday 11th November. The Last Post will be sounded in Gainsborough Market Place and a small act of remembrance, attended by civic dignitaries will follow.
