People were invited to the Weston Rooms in Gainsborough on two Wednesday’s in August and so far nearly 300 people have donated blood, with several never having donated before. The blood drives have also helped raise £1,974.64 for the British Red Cross.

Carly’s dad, Kev Lovett, said: “It has been a brilliant thing. We have done it in memory of Carly.

“Not everyone can donate money but they can give blood.

“Carly was on the donor list and it’s something she would have liked to have happen.

“The team on the day did a fantastic job, working long past when they should have. They even had to turn people away from the first event.

“We are now looking to do a third one as we want to raise awareness.

“We can’t thank everyone enough.

“We wanted to do it for The British Red Cross as they helped Liam while he was out there as well and someone flew out to see him.”

The family would like to say a big thank you to everyone that donated to either organisations and for all flowers and support they have received through this hard and difficult time.

Carly’s mum, Joanne, said: “The people of Gainsborough have offered so much support through all this.

“Thank you for the minute’s silence and the amount of people who attended the church and were standing outside their shops.

“We want to thank people in some way. They have been so supportive through it all. We couldn’t have gotten through all this without everyone.

“Thank you for all the cards and flowers which were sent to the family and for the continued support given to all of us.”

Mike Stredder, Director of Blood Supply, said: “Firstly on behalf of NHS Blood and Transplant I would like to pass on our condolences to Carly Lovett’s family at this incredibly sad time.

“We feel honoured that her family not only invited us to be present at her funeral, but have worked so hard to encourage her friends and family to donate blood in her memory.

“It is inspiring to think that at this incredibly difficult time they are thinking about how, as part of Carly’s legacy, she will continue to encourage others to help save and improve lives.

“This is a wonderful and selfless gesture amidst very sad circumstances.

“We are delighted that so many of Carly’s friends and family have been able to donate over the last few weeks.

“Each donation can save or improve up to three lives.
