LAM is an incurable lung condition that affects only women. There are believed to be around 150 with the disease in the UK.

The illness mainly affects the lungs and causes excessive growth of smooth muscle tissue and progressively erodes lung function.

David Mercer, LAM Action marathon co-ordinator, said: “We really appreciate all the time and effort that our runners put into training and running the London Marathon and fund raising for our charity.”
