West Lindsey District Council is exploring the possibilities of introducing selective licencing.

If the scheme is introduced it will require all private sector landlords in the designated area to comply with the conditions of the license.

It will ensure that correct arrangements for the management of properties are in place. It will require landlords to take reasonable steps to tackle issues such as anti-social behaviour that may be occurring in their properties.

Discussions are on-going at the moment and the council is collating data to ensure the scheme can be considered properly before any proposals are put forward.

If plans go ahead it could cost £375 per property for the five year period.

Mark Sturgess, Chief Operating Officer at the council said the proposals will be considered after the district council elections in May. He said: “The council is currently taking steps to ensure that any proposals taken forward to introduce a selective licensing scheme are robust and supported by the appropriate evidence base. Until this evidence is finalised the council cannot make a decision on this matter and finalise any proposals it wishes to make.”

“We would like to reassure anyone who took part in the initial consultation that we are still committed to following this process through and will be bringing a final report on the matter to committee in summer 2015.”

Selective licensing was discussed at the Prosperous Communities Committee in December 2014, where it was agreed to collect additional data with regards to anti-social behaviour, to allow an informed view to be taken.
