To allow the works to be completed, the bridge will be closed to motorists from 6pm until 6am, each night form tonight (Monday 21 March) until Friday 25 March.

Motorists will not be able to travel west on the A631 out of Gainsborough towards Bawtry and the A1, and vice versa for the five nights. The other main routes for the town will not be closed as part of these works.

Traffic travelling in this direction will be diverted via the A156 and the A1133, then join the A1 at Newark.

Steve Wiles, area highways manager, says: "The road surface has unfortunately deteriorated through wear and tear so it's important we bring it back up to standard.

"While we appreciate their will be inconvenience to motorists, it's important we complete this work before the Easter holidays when more people will be on the roads."

Advance warning signs will be in place, bus operators have been informed and the diversion route will be signed.
