Gateford school joins Bassetlaw’s tree planting for Jubilee

Children from Gateford Primary School joined councillor Sybil Fielding to plant native silver birch and oak trees at the green space off Churchill Way in Gateford.

The tree planting was funded by Notts County Council’s Local Improvement Scheme as part of Bassetlaw Council’s efforts to plant 6,000 trees during Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee year.

Thousands of trees have already been planted across Bassetlaw which in turn will provide additional habitats for neighbouring wildlife.

Coun Fielding said: “What a fantastic way to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year as it gets people rolling their sleeves up and getting involved with activities in their local community.”

“This area is also an excellent habitat for wildlife so I’m delighted that I was able to support the parish council’s application for funding.”
