Mr Mann polled 23,965 votes to secure a majority of 8,843.

Conservative Sarah Downes came second on 15,122; David Scott, of UKIP, was third with 7,865; Lib dem Leon Duveen polled 1,331 and Green Party candidate Kris Wragg was fifth with 1,006 votes.

Before his result was announced Mr Mann criticised his party’s leadership for not listening to voters.

He tweeted: “Can’t say that Labour leadership weren’t warned repeatedly - those who even bothered to meet that is. Never hurts to listen.”
