Generous fundraisers dig deep for Macmillan Cancer Support

Staff at the Halifax bank, Bridge Street, Worksop, enjoyed a cuppa and a slice of cake, as did councillors from Dinnington St John’s Town Council at The Lyric Theatre, Dinnington, on Friday, September 25.

Events were held across the country as part of Macmillan’s ‘World Biggest Coffee Morning’ as workers and groups gathered to do their bit for charity.

Organiser and banking consultant at Halifax, Louise Ward said that £382 was raised on the day.

“It went really well,” she said.

“All the staff got involved and all the cakes went.

“It was the third one we have done and it was very popular.”

Dinnington St John’s Town councillor, Jean Hart, said that more than 100 people attended and £320 was raised in total.

“It was amazing, it was a lovely morning,” she said. We had a great time and all the people who attended were lovely.

“The three supermarkets Aldi, Tesco and Herron all contributed towards our budget for cakes and treats.

“All the male councillors dressed up in wigs as well which was great.

She added: “It got us thinking about charities closer to home and what other events we could support.

“The amount of people who give money just shows how warm-hearted we are, even people on limited budgets.”

A spokesman for Macmillan said: “There are now 2.5million people in the UK living with cancer. By 2030, it will be 4million people, and we want to be there for them all.

“One in three of us will get cancer, and it will be one of the toughest things we’ll ever have to face. Our goal is to make sure no one faces cancer alone.”
