Taking place on Easter Monday, April 17, the second Boston Marathon will see runners take on a 26.2 mile course, which is said to be the ‘flattest marathon course in the world’.

More than 500 people have signed up already, with only 800 spaces available.

Event secretary Harish Karup confirmed that the course will be the same as last year, starting in the Market Place, then out to Wrangle and finishing at the college. There will also be a half-marathon again and a three km fun run for 12 to 17-year -olds.

Chairman Richard Austin said: “The Boston Marathon is a great chance for local charities to raise funds.

“Individual runners can be sponsored.

“Alternatively a five-person relay team can run the half marathon course.”

People who do not fancy running but want to help can volunteer as one of about 100 marshals that are needed.

The marshals will help at the watering stations and road junctions.
