Get set for 2012

SPORT is the name of the game for 2012 and Bassetlaw Games is here to champion the cream of sporting talent in the district as part of the London 2012 celebrations.

The Worksop Guardian has teamed up with Bassetlaw Council to produce a free Bassetlaw Games guide packed with all the information you’ll need about this year’s exciting programme.

Over the next 12 months Bassetlaw residents will have the chance to take part in a wide range of sporting activities - from clay shooting at Hyton Castle, fencing at North Notts Arena or cycling in Clumber Park.

There are also plenty of educational and cultural events taking place, including the Bassetlaw Schools Torch Relay - giving every child the opportunity to experience the excitement of the Olympics.

In an event mirroring the journey of the Olympic flame the Bassetlaw Games torch will travel between all participating schools from February to June.

The Bassetlaw Torch will finish its journey on 21st June - seven days before the official Olympic torch passes through the district.

The special souvenir programme also tells you how to get involved, pick up some tips from sporting stars of the past, present and future and see what local clubs have to offer.

Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Seb Coe said Bassetlaw Games encourages people across the district to fulfill their potential.

“I am proud that with the help of partners such as Bassetlaw Council, we are delivering our vision to use the power of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to boost participation in new sports and activities across Bassetlaw,” he said.

To pick up your FREE Bassetlaw Games guide, simply pop into our reception on Ryton Street.

The booklets are available from Worksop Library, Worksop Leisure Centre and the tourist information centre.
