Good news for Worksop but not for Retford

The campaign to secure the future of the ambulance station in Worksop looks to have succeeded following the publication of a new report.

East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) has released details of a report which makes recommendations over the future of stations.

Worksop’s station was originally earmarked for closure but in the new proposals it is one of the stations set to remain open.

The report will go before the EMAS trust board on Monday. It will consider recommendations to replace its 65 stations with 28 stations including several large hubs, ambulance stations - including the one in Worksop - and 108 smaller community ambulance stations. A community post is proposed for central Worksop.

Earlier proposals had suggested creating just ambulance hubs and community ambulance posts.

EMAS launched a consultation over the plans last year and faced opposition from campaigners in Bassetaw.

Phil Milligan, EMAS chief executive, said: “The aim of our Being the Best change programme has always been to improve response times to emergency 999 calls and to improve the working lives of our frontline staff.”

“I am pleased our staff, and the people and organisations who have an interest in the service we provide have taken the time to be involved, to have their say and help to shape our plans.”

“In the true spirit of consultation, that is what has happened. We’ve listened to the responses received during the consultation and we’ve developed and shaped our plans using that feedback.”
