Tansy Scott (12) went under the clippers at Image International Hair Salon in Spalding last night and is on course to raise at least £200 for Anna’s Hope, a Stamford-based charity supporting children and families coping with Brain Tumours.

Vanessa Coomber, Tansy’s mum, said: “I’ve previously had my head shaved for Anna’s Hope and Tansy wanted to do something nice for a children’s charity before Christmas.

“Tansy’s hair is just about shoulder length so she’s having it cut a pixie (short) style which her school is happy with.

“She originally set a fundraising target of £50 but from setting up a Justgiving page online, she’s now up to £150 after pledges given family, friends and colleagues from my workplace.”

Anna’s Hope is named after Anna Hughes who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in February 2005 and underwent 15 months of treatment before her death, aged three in May 2006.

The charity is run by a group of trustees, led by Anna’s parents Robert and Carole Hughes who founded Anna’s Hope in October 2006.

Vanessa said: “My relative has a brain tumour and she lives with it on a daily basis, so Anna’s Hope is close to home for us.

“The salon has asked to donate its fee to Anna’s Hope and Tansy (a student at Thomas Cowley High School, Donington) is very excited about raising a bit of awareness of the charity.

“She’s tried so hard for Anna’s Hope and so we thought it would be nice to get a mention for the charity.”
