Graduation event for ‘amazing’ teens

Sleaford teens graduate from the National Citizen Service Programme.

More than 800 youngsters from Lincolnshire and Rutland, aged 15 to 17, completed the four-week National Citizen Service (NCS) scheme this year with a view to building skills for work and life.

Graduation ceremonies were recently held at the Odeon cinema, in Lincoln, to celebrate their completion of the programme, during which graduates received a certificate signed by Prime Minister David Cameron.

For teenagers taking part, completing NCS also opens the door for other one-of-a-kind opportunities like becoming a programme mentor or ambassador or venturing overseas with the International Citizen Service.

Phil Everett, communications manager for NCS EM1, which delivers the scheme to teens in Lincolnshire, Rutland, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, said: “This year’s NCS programme was our most successful one yet, with more than 800 teens from the county spending over 24,000 hours giving back to their community by undertaking fundraising and refurbishment projects.

“We couldn’t be happier for all the amazing young people that took part this summer because, by graduating from NCS, teenagers not only gain lifelong memories, but also give themselves a competitive edge since the programme looks great on CVs and job or university applications.”
