

Alan Gibbons was the guest of honour at the re-launch of Vision - a project to inspire more youngsters to get passionate about reading.
Alan is an award-winning author who has been writing children’s books for over 22 years. He went along of the school to hold a workshop and talk the students through his career and what influences and drives him.

A spokesman from the Academy said: “One of our main focuses is literacy and we are very keen to increase and improve upon students’ literacy in any way we can.”


“By doing this re-launch, we hope that our students can find new enthusiasm from reading and this will inspire them to achieve their goals in life.”
He added: “Providing the students with a well-stocked resource centre which is comfortable and spacious and has the right climate for learning and ambience for learning, we hope to prove that Vision will show that reading is a priority here at Outwood Academy.”
Around 40 year 7 and 8 students attended the workshop after taking part in a writing competition.

The overall winners were: Ellie Champion, Maisie Becket, Sumi Singh, Ben Mordcai, Jack McKinnell, James Leverton, Matthew Taylor, Cameron Woods, Cameron Hoyle, Armando Becci and Caitlin Hicks.
