Grant gives gardening the green light in Worksop

Members of Claylands Avenue Gardening Society are looking forward to a hassle-free summer of gardening, thanks to a £800 donation from Veolia Environmental Services’ EnviroGrant scheme to improve drainage, as extensive flooding this year has caused crops to rot and access paths to fail.

The Claylands Avenue Gardeners Society promotes, protects and supports allotments and local gardeners in and around Worksop. The main allotment is an eight-acre site which offers a place for more than 100 local gardeners.

Martin Hadfield, chairman of Claylands Avenue Gardeners Society, said: “The funded drainage work has allowed 4 additional plots to be let and access to the site made safer.”

Kevin Parker, regional communications manager for Veolia Environmental Services, said he was delighted to be able to help the gardening group with a ‘very real’ problem.

“Our EnviroGrant scheme is aimed at community groups looking to improve their local environment; so this project fits the bill perfectly,” he said.

“We wish the group all the best with it and we hope that the improved drainage and access, enhances local people’s enjoyment of their allotments.”

The Nottinghamshire EnviroGrant Scheme is a community fund to which not-for-profit community groups based in the county of Notts can apply for grants of up to £1,000 for projects which improve their local environment.

Projects with an environmental/green focus are prioritised. However all applications are considered on their individual merit.

For an application form please email [email protected] or contact us on 0115 850 5900, with the following information:
