Grim discovery in Sleaford sold at auction

Auctioneers Golding Young and Mawer hosted their annual Lincolnshire Day Sale at their new premises in Station Road, North Hykeham, which included items such as maps, prints, books and original works to crested china. One grim item in the auction was a human jawbone, which was found bricked up in a property on Old Place, Sleaford, and is believed to date from 1860. It sold for £15.

Among £250,000 worth of antiques and collectables sold in just two months at the company’s new premises, the highest price achieved so far is £16,500 for a pair of Elizabeth lounge chairs, by the Danish maker Kosod Larsen.

The chairs were sold in the September sale on behalf of the executors of Euan Robertson of Leasingham Manor, near Sleaford, and were bought by a Danish collector in the room.
