Group’s ‘Come and Sing’ open evening and other Neighbourhood News

After a successful performance on Radio Lincolnshire as part of its Christmas Carol Service broadcast on Christmas Day, Boston Choral Society is opening its doors to anyone interested in joining them to sing.

The group are about to re-start rehearsals for their spring concert, which includes numerous well-known choral and operatic favourites.

They rehearse at Kirton Town Hall, every Thursday from 7.30-9.30pm.

Next Thursday, January 16, they will be holding the session as an open door ‘Come and Sing’ evening.

It will include home-made cake during the group’s break.

“Singing with others and learning parts – whether you’re a soprano, alto, tenor bass or not sure – is great fun and really good stimulation for the mind,” a spokesman said. “Why not come and join us?”

GOSBERTON

* Ladies Circle

Gosberton Ladies Circle resumes tomorrow (Thursday, January 9) at 7.30pm.

Entry is priced at £4, which includes refreshments.

The meeting will feature a talk on reflexology.

* Women’s Institute

Gosberton Women’s Institute meets in the Public Hall on Tuesday, January 14, at 7.15pm. All welcome.

Freestyle karate and kung fu self defence classes are being held in the Gosberton Public Hall on Wednesday evenings from 7-8pm, with the next session taking place on Wednesday, January 15.

* Messy church

Messy Church sessions resume in the church hall on Friday, January 17.

Doors open at 3.30pm for crafts, stories, songs, and a buffet tea.

The theme is ‘The Parable of the Prodigal Son’.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Admission is free, but donations would be welcome.

* Prize bingo

Prize bingo will be held in Gosberton Public Hall on Friday, January 17, at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. All welcome.

There will also be a raffle with good prizes.

The next fortnightly meeting of the village’s book club will be held in the Gosberton Public Hall on Monday, January 20, from 9.30-11.30am.

The annual subscription is £2. Coffee or tea and biscuits are available at 50p.

CLOUGH & RISEGATE

* Plough services

Gosberton Clough Methodist Church will hold a plough service with the blessing of the plough on Sunday, January 12, at 2.30pm.

The service will be led by the minister, the Rev Frances Ballantyne, and be followed by a ploughman’s tea.

Proceeds to church funds.

Gosberton Clough’s St Gilbert and St Hugh’s Church will also have a plough service on Sunday, January 12, starting at 4pm.

This will be followed by a ploughman’s supper in the church hall.

WILDLIFE

* Talk

The Boston Area Group of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust meets at the Centenary Methodist Church Hall, in Read Lion Street, Boston, tomorrow (Thursday, January 9), at 7.30pm.

It will feature an illustrated talk on aerial photographs of nature reserves from guest speaker Dave Bromwich, head of nature reserves at the Wildlife Trust.

Free to attend, but donations welcome.

Refreshments available for a donation.
