Sarah Simpson, of Co-operative Funeral Care on Gateford Road, was presented with the accolade in a surprise ceremony on Wednesday, January 20.

Sarah was nominated by Lorna Fidler on behalf of her dad, Ian Fidler, after their family were left devastated when Lorna’s mum passed away at the age of just 49.

Sarah went “beyond her call of duty” to ensure the family were well looked after when they found themselves embarking on the difficult process of organising a funeral.

Lorna said: “Sarah was such a genuine and caring lady who helped us through a very hard time.

“After my mum’s funeral, Sarah also helped by arranging personalised Christmas presents for us, so that we all have something to remember my mum by.

“This was completely beyond her call of duty, and she made sure we got them in time even though they were ordered at short notice.

“She also helped make special alterations to my mum’s flowers for my dad, which allowed my mum’s personality to really shine through.

“I honestly don’t know what we would have done without Sarah,” Lorna added.

Our Guardian Roses are generously donated by Walker’s House of Flowers, based in the Priory Shopping Centre.
