Delivery driver Sheila Cunnington raised the alarm after pensioner Charles Green was in pain and holding his chest.

Sheila immediately called for paramedics and Mr Green was taken to hospital and he is now continuing his recovery back at his home in Harworth.

To shows his appreciation, Mr Green nominated her for a Guardian Rose - from the Walkers House of Flowers in Worksop - and presented the award on Wednesday.

“When I got there Mr Green was not himself,” Sheila told the Guardian.

“I see him on a regular basis and I could tell something was wrong, he had lost his sparkle.”

“I pressed the emergency button and the paramedics came.”

All drivers at the service carry out ‘safe and well checks’ every time they deliver a meal. Mr Green is one of many who receive a hot meal seven days a week.

“The service is a lifeline for a lot of people who don’t have any family,” Sheila said.

Sometimes it is the only hot meal they receive, it is vital.”
