Harworth: Couple celebrate their Diamond Wedding anniversary

It all started with a passing glace outside Rose Brothers in Gainsborough and now 60 years later Ken and Lydia Adams have celebrated their Diamond Wedding anniversary.
Celebrating 60 years of Marriage,  Lydia & Ken Adam, of Chatsworth Court, Harworth.
Lydia (78) & Ken (82) met while working for Rose Brothers in Gainsborough.
Lydia was born at Gringley on the Hill near Retford, & Ken was from Bourne in Lincolnshire.
They have lived in Harworth for 48 years

They couple officially met after Ken, 82, asked Lydia, 78, for a dance while they were both out with friends in Gringley on the Hill.

Lydia said: “I first saw him with a passing glance outside Rose Brothers in Gainsborough and then we met officially at a dance in Gringley on the Hill.

“It was so long ago I can’t really remember what happened but he must have asked me for a dance.”

Lydia was born in Gringley on the Hill and Ken was born in Bourne, Lincolnshire.

They were married on August 6, 1955.

The couple started out their married life together living in Gringley on the Hill before moving to Harworth 48 years ago where they still live now.

Lydia said: “My husband got a job at Glass Bulbs and after we had our fourth daughter I worked there as well for nine years.”

The couple have four daughters, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lydia said: “We are a close family. Three of our daughters live in Harworth and we have another who lives in Worksop.”

Ken and Lydia celebrated their landmark anniversary with a celebration with family and friends on the Saturday before and on the day of their anniversary they spent a quiet day together at home wth close family.

Lydia said: “My brother has come to visit who lives in Wales.”

When asked what the secret was to their long lasting marriage Lydia said: “There is no real secret but a marriage has to have give and take.”
