The District Council is asking for the views of local people on its proposed 2016-17 Local Council Tax Support Scheme through a consultation exercise taking place between September 24 and October 30.

The Council is proposing to keep the scheme the same as in 2015-16.

Pensioners would not be affected, war pensioners and war widow(ers) will be protected from changes, and all working age people will be entitled to support for up to 75 per cent of their Council Tax liability depending on their circumstances.

Views are being sought through this consultation on whether proposed changes to other Government benefits should be applied to the local Council Tax Support scheme.

The Council’s Portfolio Holder for Finance, Councillor Nick Guyatt, said: “It is important that people let us know their views on our proposal so we can make an informed decision on the Council Tax Support Scheme for 2016-17. I would encourage local people to respond to this consultation exercise.”
