Have your say on Isle's flood prevention plan

The Local Flood Risk Management Strategy outlines what measures are already in place, and what is intended for the future, to help reduce the risk of flooding from surface water, groundwater and ordinary watercourses in communities.

Now is the time for everyone who lives across the Isle, and has concerns, to make their views known on the scope of the strategy, pointing out any risk area that it is felt might not be adequately covered.

Information about all the different authorities involved in managing flood risk across the Isle and beyond, and their particular roles and responsibilities are included in the document.

The Local Flood Risk Management Strategy can be studied on North Lincolnshire Council’s website at www.northlincs.gov.uk/current-consultations, or on computers at any North Lincolnshire libraries.

A meeting took place at the start of the month between MP Andrew Percy, local councillors, drainage boards and North Lincs Council to discuss progress on the Isle of Axholme Flood Strategy for the next 10 to 15 years.

Mr Percy said then: “I am very keen that as much of the local drainage system is in local hands as possible so that it is managed as close to the Isle as possible. This could mean transferring some of the EA assets to the drainage boards but a lot of work is needed before anything is agreed.”

The replacement or refurbishment of Keadby Pumping Station is a huge scheme currently being assessed as a possible way forward. If approved, it could cost multi-millions of pounds to upgrade the old-fashioned facility after it was badly damaged in the December 2013 floods.
