Head shave for Roxi’s playground

Roxi, a mum of six from Misterton, lost her battle with cancer in June aged just 27.

Her husband Paul told the Standard she was ‘born to be a mother and her children meant everything to her’.

Now, Roxi’s friends have set up a memorial fund in her name, to raise money for a new children’s play area in the village.

One of the fund raising feats is a sponsored head shave, taking place at Lark In The Park in Richmond Park on Sunday 19th August.

Gutsy Gainsborough gal Chelsea Hutchinson, 25, has put herself forward for the chop.

“I didn’t know Roxi personally but I have heard so many lovely things about her, I felt I wanted to do something,” said Chelsea.

“I don’t know how I’ll feel with no hair - it’ll be weird because it’s what I normally use to show off my personality.”

“But compared to what Roxi went through, it’s nothing. And knowing all the money raised will go to such a great cause will be worth it.”

Chelsea said her four-year-old son Finlay had been teasing her about how she will look.

But boyfriend Jason said he was ‘proud’ of what she is doing.

Visitors to Lark In The Park will be able to watch Chelsea go under the clippers at around 2pm.

In the meantime she is busy raising sponsorship. And Gainsborough firm Elite Workwear UK have kindly supplied an eye-catching T-shirt to help bring in the cash.

“People keep looking at me a bit funny - but that’s the point. I want them to take notice,” said Chelsea.

Her original sponsorship target of £200 has already been broken, and now she is looking to raise as much as possible.

Kathy Denman, friend of Roxi and chairman of the Roxi Makings Memorial Fund, said they were currently looking for a suitable site to build the play area once enough had been raised.

“The memorial will be for the children of Misterton as a lasting legacy of Roxi’s love of children,” she said.

Another of Roxi’s friends, Kay Roberts, said: “She was devoted to her children. She was one of the most kind, caring, genuine people you could ever meet.”
