Healthcare advice

HEALTH professionals in Bassetlaw are encouraging people across the district to choose the right treatment and the best place to go for it this festive period as part of the ‘Choose Well’ campaign.

Dr Michael Ho, member of NHS Bassetlaw CCG and a Retford GP, said: “Helping people make the right choice in accessing services will mean great benefits for the patient and will help the doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals who are placed under a lot of pressure during the winter period.

“We are urging people to think about helping themselves by keeping a well-stocked medicine cabinet and getting plenty of rest.

“Over-the-counter remedies and advice can be provided at local pharmacies. Pharmacists are highly-trained healthcare professionals who can offer advice on common illnesses and the medicines needed to treat them. Most now have a quiet area away from other customers to speak privately with a pharmacist.”

Winter is a really busy time for A&E departments across the country and Bassetlaw is no exception. Visiting A&E departments or calling 999 should just be reserved for people who are badly injured or showing symptoms of a critical illness such as chest pain or broken bones.
