Originally from Illinois, former university professor of English Ms Grant has taken over the baton from Roy Phillips, who moved away from the area in 2015.

With a Master’s degree in orchestral conducting and direct musical influences from such celebrated conductors such as Maurice Abravanel and Zubin Mehta at the Juilliard School of Music, Ms Grant has inspired the orchestra to perform an uplifting programme of music by Schubert, Chabrier, Butterworth, Telemann and Mozart, with Andrew Hutton as leader of the orchestra and viola soloist in Telemann’s Concerto for Viola and String Orchestra.

The concert is on Saturday, June 4, at 7.30pm in the church.

Andrew Key, chairman of the village church’s heritage and tourism group said: “St Andrew’s is a wonderful venue for live music of all kinds.
