Help at hand with Food Bank

Bassetlaw Food Bank will open its new premises on Lowtown Street in Worksop on 29th April - providing emergency food parcels to those in needs across the district.

The organisation will only be providing food parcels to people via referrals from referrals from registered agencies such as HOPE for Homeless and A1 Housing.

Acting secretary Anne Taylor said the Bassetlaw Food Bank is the result of nine months of hard work from partner organisations across the district.

“We recognised there is a real need for help and we are only too aware of how difficult things are going to become with changes across the welfare sector,” she said.

“We want to make sure that people know there is help out there and we will be as discrete as necessary.”

Anne said there has been a marked increase in the number of people needing help in both Worksop and Retford.

“Since Christmas we have seen clear evidence of a growth of need,” she said.

“The Well in Retford has distributed approximately 15 parcels per week and HOPE for Homeless threeper week.”

“This is about three times the demand seen last year.”

She added: “We urgently need people to help us pack boxes, collect from supermarkets and transport to satellite locations - anyone who would like to find out more should call BCVS on 01909 476118.”
