A host of events are planned for the weekend of June 11 and 12.

A highlight promises to be a Grand Parade of floats through the town centre, starting from Banovallum School and finishing at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School.

However, councillors are keen to make sure the town is in tip-top condition.

Mayor Councillor Angela Birchall said: “We live in a wonderful town and it would be marvellous if it was seen at its best for the Queen’s birthday weekend.

“We’d love as many volunteers as possible to come forward.

“Everyone can play a part.”

The ‘Clean for the Queen Event’ will be held on Sunday June 5 - the week before the actual celebrations.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the Community Centre in Manor House Street, with the clean up taking place from 10am until 12 noon.

Rivercare will be on duty, and there will be a litter pick around the town centre and various signs are to be cleaned.

Refreshments will be available from 11.30am onwards – at the Community Centre.

Equipment and a briefing are to be provided for volunteers.

The clean up follows a similar event held earlier this year when various town organisations - including the cadets - joined councillors and other volunteers.
