The attraction is one of six shortlisted in the poll being run by Holiday Lettings.

At the time of writing, Skegness Pier had won 25 per cent of the votes, putting it a close third to Weston-super-Mare’s Grand Pier (on 27 per cent) and within striking distance of poll leader Cromer Pier (on 33 per cent).

Trailing were: Burnham-on-Sea Pier, Brighton Pier, and Portsmouth’s Clarence Pier.

A Holiday Lettings spokesman said: “These great piers were selected because we felt that they all perfectly embodied everything that’s great about the British seaside. Iconic, family-friendly and a range of shapes and sizes!”

The poll comes as Skegness Pier celebrated its 135th year at the weekend.

Gabriella Wilkinson, 22, from the attraction, put the pier’s appeal down to it providing ‘real family entertainment’ and hoped people would back it in the poll, saying it would be ‘great for the town’ to win.
