These successful appointments have been made following a recent recruitment initiative in the UK and abroad. Most are from Spain.

All of the new pharmacists have now joined the clinical teams to provide ward-based clinical services to patients at Lincoln County Hospital, Pilgrim Hospital Boston, Grantham and District Hospital and County Hospital, Louth.

The Trust’s Chief Pharmacist Colin Costello said: “We’re really pleased to welcome the new pharmacists to our teams. The eight new staff members come to us highly qualified and will help us to provide a dedicated clinical pharmacy service to optimise medication for our patients and improve clinical care.”

New recruit Ana del Saz Caracuel said: “I started with the Trust in May and so far I am really enjoying my job. It’s a fantastic team to work with and the patients are wonderful. I hope to be able to use my experience to support the team in its work across the Trust.”

The Pharmacy service purchases and supplies medication to hospitals across Lincolnshire at a value of around £40 million each year. The medication is supplied in response to doctors’ prescriptions and is used to treat all patients who are admitted as inpatients and those who attend as outpatients.

Pharmacy also supply sterile injectable medication for more specialised groups of patients, for example in cancer care.

Teams of clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians work closely with doctors and nurses so that medication is optimised for each individual patient, to ensure that all patients experience the best possible clinical outcomes from their treatment.

Pharmacy services are currently provided Monday to Friday, 8.45am to 5.15pm and also on Saturday mornings. To meet the needs of patients the provision of services will be extended over seven days a week.
