Homes plan for Lincolnshire village rejected by council

The outline application by M & M Fieldson to build up to 25 new properties on land off Brook Street in Hemswell was refused by West Lindsey District Council using delegated powers.

A mixture of single and two-storey houses, of varying size and affordability, were believed to have been proposed as part of the development.

But in its response, the council said the development was not considered to be in an appropriate location, would “significantly harm the character and appearance of the surrounding countryside” and exceeded the acceptable scale for the site.

The report continued: “The site is not promoted via a neighbourhood plan, is actively opposed by the local community and is not small scale development of a limited nature...

“Furthermore, the scale of the proposal and its protrusion into the countryside would harm the character and views of and within the (conservation) area of great landscape value.”

The council said it had received 36 letters of objection during the standard period of consultation, with only two in support.

Hemswell Parish Council also wrote to express its unanimous objection to the development.
