Horncastle primary pupil wins poster competition

An in-school competition to design a poster was won by Katie Hodgson. Her winning design will be displayed on litter bins and in shop windows.

Horncastle MP Victoria Atkins judged the competition last Friday.

Pupils from Years 1 to 6 took part and Ms Atkins praised the standard, saying it was difficult deciding the five finalists, never mind an actual winner.

Ms Atkins described the competition as a ‘marvellous idea’ and said all the entrants should feel proud of their efforts.

She also praised the efforts of local resident Jonathan Lincoln who set up the competition on behalf of the Green Town Horncastle group.

Mr Lincoln said: “As part of a campaign to address littering in town, Green Town Horncastle is planning to attach posters to the litter bins so that they would be more attractive and hopefully encourage members of the public to put waste material in the bins.

“The poster will also be displayed in fast food outlets and shop windows and again, hopefully, any litter will be put into the bins rather than thrown to the ground - or end up in the river.

“By involving the school, it is hoped it will generate greater awareness from children and their parents to care for the town.”

Mr Lincoln thanked everyone for their support, including the town council and Tesco who donated the prizes.

Sue Rooney, interim head at the school, said pupils were delighted to have taken part and she added that the school was always keen to be involved in community projects.
