Graham Bacon from Worksop said he was ‘treated like a king’ during his stay on the B5 Ward following his hip replacement operation.

To say thank you for all the care he was given, he recently returned to the ward to surprise staff with our Guardian Rose award.

Graham, who runs Safety Train - which provides health and safety training, went in for his operation at the end of October last year.

He said: “Right from the start the care was unbelievable. For the next five days nothing was too much trouble for them.”

“Anything I asked for was brought. They treated me like a king.”

“There was one day I wanted to lay in bed and they came and got me up and walking around.”

“It was like a five star hotel.”

Graham said the only time he had undergone an operation was when he was five, and was apprehensive ahead of his hip replacement.

But as soon as he arrived in hospital his concerns were relieved by staff.

After staying in hospital for five days, Graham was allowed to go home. He spent the next few months on crutches but is now back to full health.

The Guardian was there to capture the moment he surprised staff with our rose.

The team were extremely pleased at the accolade and promised to put it in the staff room for all the ward employees to see.
