People of all ages from the village flocked to enjoy the opening of the £25,000 play facility on Monday 27th May.

Dunham-on-Trent parish councillor Kathryn Watkinson thanked everyone who supported the project to help make it a success.

“I would like to thank all the local residents and businesses which helped with the play area project,” she said.

“I am thrilled by the final outcome of this project - it has taken a year, but now I hope the local children will enjoy many hours of playing there, now and for many years to come.”

Dunham-on-Trent Parish Council, in conjunction with Ragnall, Darlton and Fledborough, applied to WREN for the grant for the improvement scheme.

Playdale Playgrounds carried out the work on the new park, which feaatures swings, a zip wire, slide and a rotabout - a cross between a seesaw and a roundabout.

Coun Watkinson said the new play park came a year after a public consultation on what people would like to see in the village.

“We had the first phase of the park done two years ago and decided we wanted to extend it,” she said.

“We needed to show local support for the scheme, and after conducting surveys and questionnaires, we raised £3,712.40 towards the grant thanks to generous donations from local businesses and residents. Our thanks go to them for all their help and support, without which this play park would not have been possible.”
