Thirteen-year-old Jack Covill-Lowndes started raising money for charity when he was still a pupil at Magdalen Primary School in memory of his mum, Steph, who lost her fight with terminal cancer when he was just three years old.

Saturday’s Run to Remember event at the school raised money to thank St Barnabas Hospice for helping Jack’s mum when he couldn’t. It was also in memory of his dad, Tony, who died from a heart attack last year, with money going to the British Heart Foundation.

Around 200 people turned up for the event - either to take part in the fun run or enjoyed the whole host of activities and entertainment which had been put on by people freely giving up their time and services.

Jack said: “I want to keep the memory of my parents alive. This is the third event I have organised and it won’t be the last. I want to try and make a difference to people less fortunate than me.

“Run to Remember has been very popular again. I am amazed at the generosity of local people. Everyone was smiling and having fun. I was supported by my friends from Skegness Grammar School and Friskney Jets Football Club where I play. Without these people I would have struggled, I am very thankful to everyone who supported myself, my Auntie Tamara and Uncle Steve.”

He added: “I am already planning my next event, but it will be something different!”

Tamara Lowndes, Jack’s guardian expressed her thanks to the crowd and commented on how proud she was of her nephew.
