Inquest opens into death of Dinnington murder victim Robert Hurdley

AN inquest into the tragic death of a Dinnington man at a Maltby pub was opened this morning (Monday).

Robert Hurdley sustained a serious head injury in an altercation at the Don John public house on Sunday 14th October.

He was taken to Rotherham Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Coroner Nicola Mundy, sitting at Doncaster Coroner’s Court, heard that Mr Hurdley had been coaching rugby during the day and in the evening visited the pub.

She was told that Mr Hurdley, an optician, was assaulted and suffered a cardiac arrest in the ambulance on the way to hospital.

Ms Mundy adjourned the inquest.

Daniel Gerrard, 30, of Highfield Park, Maltby, has been charged with Mr Hurdley’s murder. He is due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday.
