Beth Roe, who is a member of the Adults Learning Difficulties Club (ALD Club), based in Dinnington, has knitted a teddy which she intends to send away to ‘Teddies for Tragedies’, who work to try and alleviate some of the stress that children suffer when catastrophes occur.

Beth, who lives in Woodsetts, said she found knitting tricky at first, but she persevered with the tangle and confusion of dropped stitches, gaping holes and unpredictable variations to complete the teddy.

Her dad Kevan said: “I am very proud of her for doing it.”

“She has stuck at it over a long period time.”

“She has done something for someone who is in need.”

“She always shows people who come round to the house as she understands that it is something that took her a long time.”

Beth attended Dawn House School and Portland College in Mansfield when she was younger and is currently at Rother Valley College two days a week.

She has difficulties with her speech and general learning but that didn’t stop her from knitting the bear, which took around six months to knit.

Her auntie Marilyn introduced her to knitting and then came across a pattern for a teddy bear.

Kevan said: “My sister would set her a challenge of how much she would need to do before she next visited.”

“Before that she has knitted a couple of rabbits for her niece and nephew.”

Beth’s auntie Marilyn said: “She has worked ever so hard on it and we are all ever so proud of her.”

The Adult Learning Difficulties (ALD) Club is a non-profit making organisation run by the parents of adults with learning difficulties.

The club was set-up by parents who were concerned that their family members were lacking a social life and needed a place where they could go on a regular basis.
