Do Something Different offers a variety of sport, leisure and cultural activities for anyone over 16 years-old with a learning or physical disability to take part in, in a fun and safe environment.

The DVD premiere, which takes place at North Lincolnshire Museum on Wednesday May 13, is the perfect opportunity for people who don’t already take part in the programme to find more about what it has to offer. Those that already take part are also welcome to go along and watch the DVD.

Do Something Different was initially launched in July 2012 for 20 months. Since then it has received further funding to carry on. This has also enabled the programme to expand to provide sessions for adults with physical disabilities as well learning disabilities (as it first started).

The programme has received lots of positive feedback from people who have taken part in the range of activities.

One hundred per cent of the people asked who currently take part in the project rated their fitness level at good to brilliant, compared with 81 per cent at the start of the project.

One hundred per cent also now rate their health levels as good to brilliant, compared to 72 per cent at the start of the project. One visually impaired participant said: “My doctor says that my asthma is much better now because I regularly exercise.”

Telle Medhurst, Disability Development Officer (sport, physical activity and health) at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Do Something Different is a fantastic programme that is great fun, and is the ideal way of meeting new people while learning new skills. We wanted to showcase all of this, which is why we decided to work with Know Media to create this DVD. It highlights all the great work that the programme does and the difference it has made to many peoples’ lives.

“There are so many different activities on offer – there really is something for everyone. We want to get more people involved in the programme and benefiting from keeping active and learning new skills. Whether you want to show off your creative side or get active, you will find an activity to suit you. There’s everything from ceramic workshops and African drumming to table tennis and wheelchair basketball. Go along to the DVD premiere and find out for yourself all there is to offer.”

The premiere starts at 11am. Tickets are free; however booking is essential as places are limited. To avoid disappointment, book your place early.
