Isle residents urged to vote to bring internationally renowned artist to North Lincolnshire

It is the only venue in the country to be shortlisted three times in a row.

The decision rests with you through an online public vote which opens May 1 2015.

The Art Centre is hoping to bring internationally renowned artist Luke Jerram to Scunthorpe and win £3,000 to host a Museums event in October 2015.

20 21 pitched an idea for the event on the theme of ‘1,000 clocks’ and the artist chose this, along with proposals for four other projects in Bristol, Gloucester, Woking and Devon.

The winner will be decided by online public voting, which runs between 11am Friday 1 May and 8pm Saturday 16 May 2015. Winners will be announced at 9pm Saturday 16 May.

One vote per email address and details will not be used for any other purpose than casting a vote, unless voters specifically request to join the mailing list.

Venues that are placed second to fifth will also win a cash prize towards an alternative event of between £300 and £100.

If 20 21 is successful, the event itself would take place on Friday October 30 2015.

The event is likely to involve a number of elements, although the exact format is decided between the winning venue and the artist following a site visit. These could include:

In 2013, the venue won artist duo Cullinan & Richards for a cult film based evening and last year artist Jessica Voorsanger led a Sci-Fi evening and a Men in Black parade down Scunthorpe High Street with the Kimberley School of Performing Arts.

Luke Jerram is known worldwide for his large scale public engagement artworks. Most recently his giant installation Park and Slide caught the world’s imagination. His celebrated street pianos installation ‘Play Me, I’m Yours’ has been presented in over 46 cities so far, reaching an audience to date of over six million people around the world. Launched by the French Minister of Culture in Paris and Mayor Bloomberg in New York City, the installation has received press coverage in almost every newspaper and television station around the globe.

“20 21 is attracting some big names to Scunthorpe with Nick Sharratt’s Pirates, Pants and Wellyphants, and our latest Turner prize winner Antony Gormley’s Field for the British Isles exhibition currently showing. And there’s more exciting displays coming soon.

“It would be the icing on the cake if, on top of the successful year we’ve had so far, we could win this competition and get to work with Luke on a local project that will be of interest to many people.
