Work is really taking shape now as the opening gets closer. Students who have already enrolled at the UTC will get chance to have a tour of the site before they start their studies.

The Humber UTC is the first school of its kind in the Humber region and will house around 145 students this year.

Specialising in engineering and renewables, alongside other key subjects, the Humber UTC offers a different experience, with the emphasis being ‘hands-on’ learning, where students get to deal with real issues they would expect to find in the workplace. Students will experience using industry standard engineering equipment they are likely to encounter in the workplace.

The Humber UTC will in four years’ time provide 600 places. It opens 7 September 2015.

Councillor Liz Redfern (pictured), leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “I am pleased with progress on the UTC – it is progressing well and on target. The University Technology College is a true partnership approach, involving the council, Clugstons, and lots of key businesses who are already playing a key role in student’s learning. This is helping to prepare students for the world of work and give them a real advantage. Students will not only learn specialist skills that are much in demand with the business sector, but will get to work with some of the region’s top business leaders, offering invaluable expertise that they can take with them when securing jobs in their chosen careers.”

Sonia Allen, Humber UTC Project Manager, said: “The tours provide a fantastic opportunity and give students an insight into what they can expect come September, when the UTC opens its doors. They can familiarise themselves with the building so it is less daunting on their first day. We have run similar tours to try and attract potential students and these have been really successful. These latest tours are specifically for those who have already enrolled and will be joining the UTC in September, so we can show them their new school.”
