'˜It was heartbreaking': Dog left to die in Skegness with golf ball sized tumour

RSPCA inspector Laura Jones rushed the tiny dog to a nearby vets - but sadly nothing could be done to save her.

Inspector Laura Jones said: “This poor girl was in such a sorry state when she was found. She had a golf ball sized hard tumour in her abdomen, hair loss across her back, a flea infestation and solid matted fur on all four legs and her tail, she was extremely underweight too. To add to all of that she had burst abscesses in her mouth and rotting teeth.

“The vets named her Laura. It was heartbreaking to see her in so much pain and absolutely the worst case of long term neglect I’ve seen in a long time.

“Despite all this she was adorable and sweet natured. My heart melted and my initial hope was we and the vets would be able to save her, sadly after vets examined her they found she was so poorly and was suffering so much pain that the kindest thing to do was to put her to sleep. Nothing could be done.

“It is so upsetting to think all this was preventable if only her owner had sought treatment when she first needed help. It would have taken many weeks for her to deteriorate to the level she was at.

“I am really keen to locate the person responsible for her appalling condition.

“In this day and age there is no need to let any animal get into such an appalling state, it sickens me to know that her pain and suffering was unnecessary and preventable. Had we been contacted by the owner and been asked to help with this dog we could have done something earlier.”
