It's a piece of cake for Dan as he funds his dream trip

Daniel is a Nomads Explorer Scout and is currently attending the Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland.

However, Daniel was told by his mum and dad that he would have to play his part in making the dream come true.

For most young people, this would not have been a problem, but for Daniel, it was a real challenge.

Daniel, 16, has Aspergers Syndrome and finds it very difficult to interact socially with other people, particularly strangers.

Despite that, he held a cake sale and raffle earliert this month at the One Stop shop in Horncastle to raise much needed funds for his eight-day trip to Switzerland who finished today (Wednesday).

Prizes in the raffle included jewellery, free fish and chip suppers, a carvery meal, photography vouchers and a cake - all by local businesses and residents.

Mum Natasha spent most of the week leading up to the sale baking cakes and biscuits.

Again, though, Daniel did his bit, decorating all the cakes in a Valentine’s Day theme.

Besides the cake sale and raffle, Daniel had been selling cakes at his school, Aegir Community School in Gainsborough and at his Explorer Scout Group in Horncastle.

Overall, he raised well over £300.

Before leaving for Switzerland, Daniel said he was very excited about going on the trip - and was looking forward to taking part in all of the activities including ice skating and building and sleeping in an igloo.

Dad Mark is full of praise for the efforts Daniel has put in and also the contributions Scouting has made to his life.

He said “For someone with Daniel’s condition, it is really hard for them to interact socially with others, but with scouting, Daniel comes into his own and he is always full of positivity.

“I would like to thank the One Stop Shop, Daniel’s school and his Scout Group and all of the lovely people that donated prizes for the raffle for being so supportive toward him”.

And it’s not just cakes. He also completed a sponsored wall climb at the Showroom in Lincoln where he raised over £200.

He managed to climb the wall over 290 times!
