Hundreds of visitors swarmed to Williamson’s Farm, Thonock Road, near Gainsborough, for a weekend of engineering wonders and family fun.

The Marshall Rally, organised by Gainsborough and District Heritage Association, marked the 60th anniversary of the Field Marshall Series 3A tractor.

It was the last of the iconic wheeled Field Marshall tractors to be built in Gainsborough.

And to mark the occasion, more than 80 Marshall tractors lined up on the field.

“It was a sight to behold,” said general organiser Carlton Bradley, of the Heritage Association.

“We were inundated with entries from people with tractors, engines, classic cars, so the event just grew bigger and bigger.”

Throw in a Spitfire fly-past, ploughing demonstration, fairground rides and a generous helping of sunshine, to crown the weekend a roaring success.

A vintage double decker bus was also well-used by people travelling from Gainsborough town centre to the rally field.

“The feedback we have had since has been brilliant,” said organiser and Heritage Association treasurer Lynne Birkitt.

“People came from as far away as Aberdeen, Wales, Devon, Kent and Norfolk.”

“And without those people the event would not have happened, so we must say ‘thank you’.”

Mr Bradley added: “It was an excellent weekend, everyone enjoyed themselves and there have even been calls for it to become an annual event.”
