It's '˜chaos' as sewer is repaired

Anglian Water needs to replace 13 metres of sewer pipe at the junction of the A158 and the B1202 in Wragby.

The works mean there are temporary three-way control traffic lights on the east, west and southbound (Bardney) roads.

And Victoria Street (northbound) is closed with a signed diversion in place.

East Lindsey District Council councillor for Wragby, Nick Guyatt, described the situation as “chaos” - with huge traffic jams reported as far back as Langworth, and Langton by Wragby, heading east.

He said: “It’s chaos.They’ve got to find a better way of directing the traffic.

“They have to find some way of minimising the problem.

“They need to think outside the box to make life a bit easier for everybody, especially the people who live in and around Wragby.”

To make matters worse, A158 is the main road to the coast - and the start of the repair works coincided with the busy school holiday period, when many people were making trips to the seaside.

Wragby Parish Council clerk Steve Wallace said: “It’s quite a stretch of pipe that’s collapsed.

“These things do happen. When they happen they never will happen at a good time.

“It’s going to cause aggravation in the short term.

“Unfortunately it’s the main road out to Lincoln or the coast - and everybody knows it, locals as well as the tourists.

“At least it’s not in the main school holidays in the summer - it could be worse.”

The problem came to light after nearby residents reported problems flushing their toilets.

An Anglian Water spokesman said: “We have now completed the installation of the overland sewer pipes.

“This means local residents are able to use their toilets normally whilst we complete the repair.

“Over the weekend we identified the damaged sections of pipe using CCTV cameras.

“We will now be preparing the site to repair sections of the sewer and replace 13m of sewer pipe. This will take a few weeks to complete and we are sorry for any disruption caused by these essential  repairs.”

A Lincolnshire County Council spokesman said: “These arrangements will be kept under review, but the works are likely to lead to significant delays and long tailbacks during busy periods, and drivers are advised to seek alternative  routes.”
