The nursery employs 29 people at sites in Horncastle and Tattershall and looks after more than 40 children.

Ms Atkins discussed the important role that nurseries play in supporting parents and early years’ development with Sonia Elton (owner), Tina Danby (area manager) and Shona Fulton (senior assistant manager).

She took time out to talk to children and was able to gain first hand experience of the cafe.

Ms Atkins said: “It was a delight to visit Bearhugs and meet Sonia, Tina, Shona and all the other staff who work so hard to support local families with childcare.

“We discussed the importance of early years development and some of the challenges faced by early years providers.

“I will be making representations to the Secretary of State for Education, Nicky Morgan, on their behalf.

“It was a real treat to meet the young children who attend Bearhugs and to play at the Mud Café with them.”
