A blaze broke out last night (Wednesday), with police stating it ‘would appear that it was a deliberate ignition’ and continue to investigate the cause.

A spokesman for Cyden Homes, which owns the site, said: “Cyden Homes recently acquired the former de Montfort Campus for the development of new homes.

“Planning consent was given for the homes in December 2015 and we are currently going through the process of planning for the demolition of the buildings on the land.

“We were notified of the fire last night and we are now in the process of reviewing the damage and ensuring the safety of the buildings.

“We had already stripped the buildings of their contents and disconnected all the services in preparation for the demolition.

“Whilst we have secured the land, it is a very dangerous time for anyone to force their way into the buildings to start a fire and we would implore people to avoid the area and to speak to their children about keeping away from the area until such time it is safe for the public to access the development ”
