Kesteven and Sleaford High School and William Alvey School singled out for praise as East Midlands in Bloom judges tour Sleaford

The judges for East Midlands in Bloom 2016 were welcomed last Tuesday by the Mayor, David Suiter, and members of the Sleaford in Bloom Committee.

They were shown some of the town’s beauty spots, with contributions by councils, businesses and schools to make the place look its best.

Becky Mayfield, Sleaford in Bloom secretary, said the committee thought the judging went very well: “The places we took the judges round were looking very attractive, litter free and well cared for.

“This year, for the first time, we visited a secondary school, Kesteven and Sleaford High School, and spoke to a group of students.”

The year seven Eco Ambassadors group showed off an enhancement project of the garden behind the sixth form house in partnership with the site team.

The judges later met with William Alvey Primary School pupils at Lollycocks Field nature reserve. The school’s ‘Eco-Warriors’ have been working with Sleaford in Bloom encouraging pupils to protect the environment.

Westgate Park was entered for the Best Front Gardens award, with Millers Cafe Bar and Brasserie entered for Best Hotel/Pub Garden and The Sleep Shop for Best Retail/Commercial Premises.

The results will be announced at a ceremony on September 14.
